Rejection is just Redirection
Mariah's Days started in 2020 during the pandemic through Instagram as a creative outlet for the author Mariah to share ways she was coping through the stress of COVID.
Right before COVID hit, Mariah was ready to start Law School at the University of Denver in the Fall, had a summer internship at Harvard lined up and was preparing for an intense Model United Nations competition in New York at the United Nations Headquarters. Mariah was enrolled at Sonoma State University in California and was on an International Conference non-profit PACURH and was running for a position on the National Board of Directors. At that point, Mariah's past 2.5 years was dedicated to the non-profit while working part time at Outback Steakhouse and volunteering for the Residential Housing Association(RHA) at Sonoma State. Because of some logistical issues that being on the National board would bring, Mariah applied to Sonoma State's Master's program as a backup plan just in case she was chosen so that she could remain a part of the non-profit, but would have to stay in California. Mariah eventually was not chosen on the National Board as they chose to leave the position vacant instead of choosing her as the only running member, thus crushing Mariah. When cutting ties with the Association, she also had to cope with losing her network of friends, sending her into even deeper of a spiral. Mariah graduated from Sonoma State University in May of 2020, remotely, and did not get the chance to say goodbye to most of her friends, similarly to how most of the world lost that opportunity. Mariah decided that this rejection from the association was a sign that she needed to be redirected and go to the University of Denver instead of stay within her comfort zone at Sonoma State University.
After graduating, she found herself feeling hopeless and defeated, not knowing what she was going to do, thus changing her Instagram name to Mariahs.days and changing her content to making reels and nature/travel photos rather than just posting every once in a while photos of friends and family. Posting content and creating content became a positive outlet for her to cope with not going to Harvard for the summer and losing most of her friends.
The Travel Bug
After a summer of waterfall chasing and road trips, Mariah applied for a legal assistant position at the Colorado State Capital starting in the late Fall of 2020. In September, Mariah started her Masters/J.D program, got accepted for the legal assistant internship and made a plan to move to Denver, Colorado by herself in late December. Mariah moved the 1,200 miles to Colorado on January 1st 2021 and started her legal assistant position remotely, and ironically, did not going in person at the Colorado State Capital until her last day on May 21st 2021. Mariah knew half way through the internship that she did not align with the career path her law program would take her down, so she dropped the JD track and continued with her Environmental Policy Masters program instead. Mariah had an offer from Brown University and Harvard University for another internship starting in May, but Mariah chose to intern with Ball Corporation instead as this had potential for a full time career after the internship. Mariah spent the summer traveling for the company on business trips as well as traveling in between Colorado and California.
Starting in August 2021, Mariah had a full time position at Ball Corporation and a full time course load at the University of Denver. Little did Mariah know that taking the position at Ball Corporation would fuel her love for traveling and nature as she traveled 2-3 weeks every month for the entire 2.5 years of her career at Ball. Mariah moved to Seattle in July of 2023 with her two kittens, Millie and Mo, and left Ball Corporation to pursue EHS at Boeing. Mariah continues to post travel and inspirational content about being single and following your dreams no matter what stage in life you are in.
